Examining Titus 2 in Scripture

No Comments

I would like to begin today by introducing you to Titus 2, a Scripture that has, for a long time, confused and dismayed me. It is a Scripture that is mentioned in the majority of books written to, for and by Christian women, but Titus 2 is often not adequately explained. On a personal level, I found it difficult to understand why this passage from the Bible was so consistently mentioned in books pertaining to Christian women and marriage.

Now, if you know me you know that I am easily frustrated and discouraged, and that I have an impossibly quick temper. There is nothing that I abhor more than my own basic lack of understanding. I did what was, for me, the most logical thing: I abandoned all books with a reference to Titus 2. If nobody could explain to me what the Scriptures meant, then I would simply ignore them until such time as somebody could point me in the right direction.

This blog is about Christian women, written by a Christian woman. While much of it is my personal journey as I explore the Scriptures, and in particular Titus 2, it is a great opportunity for us to learn from one another.

Bear in mind that I am not the “aged woman” of Scripture. In fact, I have never had in my life a Titus 2 woman. There has never been a woman in my life who has supported me by teaching me the life skills that I would need to be a good Christian wife and mother one day.

I have pasted the original King James Scripture below so that you can read it. Through the coming months and years, we will examine the Titus 2 woman together in the hopes of becoming that wonderful aged Christian woman.

3The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;

4That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,

5To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
